Jean Allman, the J.H. Hexter Professor in the Humanities and a professor of African and African American studies, whose scholarship explores the ways in which African women and men have positioned themselves as central actors in the making of the globalized modern world joins the likes of songwriter and activist Joan Baez, former Attorney General Eric Holder, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Albert Einstein, Margaret Mead, and more than 13,500 other distinguished academy members – nearly 70 of whom are, or have been, members of the WashU community. This honor recognizes the impactful careers of professors Allman and others as exemplary scholars, educators, and members of the national liberal arts community. It also signifies the academic distinction and caliber of our AFAS faculty.
