New Job, New City, New Pandemic? Opong

New postdoctoral fellow, Adwoa Opong, shares her research interests, COVID-19 challenges, and hopes for the spring semester.

The postdoc marked a new stage in my professional life. Even though it began in the midst of a pandemic, the support from staff and faculty, and collegial spirit in the department has been significant in ensuring a productive semester. in addition to making progress on my own writing, working on The Black 1968 project inspired me to design a syllabus along the main themes of the manuscript. In the Spring semester, I will be teaching a first-year seminar, Gender, Sexuality and Power in 19th and 20th Century Africa. The course examines how gender was transformed and reproduced in the lives of African men and women, to understand among other things changing forms of state power in 19th and 20th century Africa.
