Black Women's Studies Association Symposium

Black Women's Studies Association - 2nd Annual Virtual Symposium

“No One is Free Until We All are Free:” Activism, Advocacy, and Academic Freedom During Late-Stage Capitalism April 4-5, 2025

Fannie Lou Hamer’s words, “Until I am free, you are not free either,” remain deeply relevant as global and domestic crises continue to threaten collective freedom. From the ongoing violence in Palestine, Haiti, and Sudan to the repression of pro-Palestinian protests and rising attacks on Black women, queer people, and disabled individuals in academic spaces, the urgency of solidarity is clear.

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Combahee River Collective, this event explores the enduring power of Black feminist thought and its role in advancing global movements for justice. Through conversations centered on the "multilayered texture of Black women’s lives," participants will reflect on the responsibilities of scholars, activists, and advocates in the ongoing fight for liberation—because none of us are free until all of us are free.
